Youthlinc has officially partnered with Southern Utah University (SUU) to offer two transferable college credits for completing the Youthlinc Service Year. Whether you’re in high school, college, or an adult mentor, this is an amazing opportunity to make your Service Year experience go even further.
This is a huge step forward in recognizing the value of the work our participants put into service, leadership, and cultural learning. Now, all of that impact doesn’t just change communities, it can also show up on your college transcript.
“Youthlinc is doing transformational work in service, leadership, and community engagement. Partnering with Youthlinc allows SUU to recognize and reward that impact with academic credit.” said Melinda Pfundstein, Executive Director of Community & Workforce Development at SUU. "Participants are gaining the exact real-world skills—leadership, collaboration, and cultural awareness—that higher education should be rewarding."
Here’s how it works: starting in the 2025-26 Service Year, all participants will have the option to opt in for SUU credit. Once you’re signed up, you’ll commit to completing the accredited portion of the program:
40 hours of local service between January 15 and June 1
Attending monthly team meetings
Completing all required Impact Modules
This course is pass/fail, which means once you complete all the requirements by June 1, you’ll earn two college credits for your efforts. At the end of the Service Year, you’ll simply register with SUU and see your achievement reflected on your official transcript.
“This partnership bridges community service and academic recognition in a way that empowers students for life.” said Pfundstein. “SUU is proud to stand alongside Youthlinc in building pathways that connect service with education.
We’re thrilled about what this means for our Youthlinc community, and we can’t wait to see participants take advantage of this new opportunity.
