Salvation Army Food Pantry

Description:

We have a client choice pantry which means the members of the community can come in and shop for their items like a grocery store. We use this method to bring more confidence to the clients and help them use our pantry as a stepping stone to get their independence and food security back. This also helps eliminate a lot of the food waste that we have seen in the last few years.

We serve about 400 households per month in our pantry and about 40-50 of those households each day that we are open.

We separate the volunteer opportunities into 2 separate positions. The first one involves talking with clients, walking them through the pantry and helping while the pantry is open. The other opportunity is when the clients are not in the building and stocking the shelves and unloading the deliveries. If there is an individual that has great communication skills and can handle the occasional conflict resolution, we would love to have them come in to help with the clients. If someone likes a quieter atmosphere with a slower pace, we would love to have them come stock shelves and get the pantry ready for the day.

https://volunteer.usawest.org/
