Our volunteers offer terminally ill patients and their families comfort, support, and companionship during a patient''s most challenging days, weeks, and months. Volunteers are here not only for the patient, but also their caregivers. <br /><br />What is the Volun-teen Volunteer Program?<br />This program is specifically designed to allow students aged 14-18 to gain volunteer experience. Volunteers under 18 are required to submit a consent form signed by a parent or legal guardian. Our volunteers offer terminally ill patients and their families comfort, support, and companionship during a patient''s most challenging days, weeks, and months. Upon completion of the committed time, students will receive a letter of recommendation to include with college applications. <br /><br />What''s Offered and Ways the Patient and Family Can Benefit from Volunteers <br />

<li>A comforting and supportive presence</li>
<li>Hold a hand</li>
<li>Listen to cherished memories</li>
<li>Bake a cake</li>
<li>Pat a shoulder</li>
<li>Give a hug</li>
<li>Touch a heart</li>
<li>Change a life (maybe even your own)</li>
<li>Engaging in a patient''s hobbies (playing a board game, discussing current events, etc.)</li>
<li>Informing other hospice staff of the needs of the hospice patient and family</li>
<li>Encouraging the patient to tell their life story and record it digitally or on paper</li>
<li>Allowing time for the caregiver to take care of themselves</li>
</ul>
<br />Volun-teen Requirements<br />
<ul>
<li>Two letters of recommendation Volunteers will need to provide two letters of recommendation from either of these pairings: teacher/guidance counselor, clergy/youth leader, or two adults who are not their parents/guardians.</li>
<li>Parent/Guardian Consent Form Volunteers under 18 are required to submit a consent form signed by a parent or legal guardian. Without it, the minor cannot participate in the Inspiration Hospice Volun-teen Volunteer Program.</li>
<li>Commitment Volunteers must agree to a six-month commitment to volunteer a minimum of four (4) hours per month.</li>
<li>Training There is training that is required prior to visiting your first patient. Training is completed online.</li>
<li>Vaccination/Testing TB testing is required. You will also need to either have the Hepatitis B vaccine or sign a declination.</li>
<li>Secured messaging All information concerning a patient would be relayed through secure messaging (TigerConnect) only. Pictures and information about a patient are not to be shared on social media.</li>
