Hey Thailand 2 team members! We are excited to start the 2016-2017 Service Year with you. We know you met your Team Leader and Assistant Team Leader at General Orientation (pssst … read more about them here). We also want to make sure you’re familiar with the awesome Alum Leaders on your team!
Alum Leaders are another link in the chain of command on a Youthlinc team. They serve as role models for student participants, specialize in creating a positive atmosphere for their team locally and internationally, work in partnership with mentors to oversee students in their appointed committees, and help Youthlinc instill a lifetime service ethic in young people. These individuals will be great resources for you throughout the year!
“My name is Tori Floyd and I am currently a senior at Davinci Academy. I was on the 2015-2016 Guatemala team for Youthlinc and this year I am an Alum leader for the 2016-2017 Peru team. I have had experience volunteering at Youth Impact, the Ogden Nature Center, and doing different kinds of work around my community. I am also currently an International Services Co-Chair for the Redcross. I applied to be and Alum leader, and to participate in this wonderful program again, because I loved my experience last year and it changed my life. I am extremely passionate about service, especially on the international level because I understand the privileges I have been given and want to use those to help people in countries that don’t have those privileges. I also understand suffering and feel that my purpose in life is to mitigate the suffering of others and help everyone I can have a better life. Through service “you can be the best part of someone’s worst day” and I love that. I’m most passionate about helping those who have been put at a disadvantage in life because everyone deserves to have a great life regardless of their dispositions.”
“Hi, my name is Haylee Lambert and I go to West High School! For my previous service year, my main service was done at Bernales Institute of Martial Arts. Here for my service I taught kids of all backgrounds, self-defense, respect, and many other life skills. I have decided to apply for Youthlinc again because of how much I realized I loved the experience. I made friends with so many people, and got to experience cultural immersion in which I not only saw the functions and struggles of other countries, but got to support people in those countries. I loved every single second of service I participated in before and during my international trip. I still enjoy serving at my martial arts studio when I can because it brings me much joy. I have a strong interest in going into the Peace Corp. after I graduate with a BA degree. I am so excited to be an Alum Leader this service year and be able to share the experience of international service with a bunch of other new people!”
