SERVICE YEAR Texas
The Youthlinc Service Year is a unique opportunity designed to engage high school and college-aged students in their local communities and communities abroad.
Humanitarians are accepted into the Service Year program in the fall and placed onto a team of students and mentors from across Texas.
Each team works together throughout the year, meeting monthly, to prepare ecological, education, community health, vocational, business, environmental, and cultural exchange projects for a two week international trip the following summer. The Texas team will be heading to Nepal in summer 2023. Planning for international projects is done throughout year under the direction of Insight Himalaya, Youthlinc’s partner based in Kathmandu.
Once placed on a team, student humanitarians commit to completing 50 hours of local service in their own community to prepare for their team’s international trip. The Service Year allows students to build leadership and interpersonal skills, and provides them with the tools to make meaningful relationships and change both locally and abroad.
Each team will hold a meeting once a month from January (General Orientation) to trip departure in the Phoenix area. Attendance is required.
All student Humanitarians will complete a total of 50 local service hours from October 15th to June 1st before their international service.
Trips are two weeks long. While you’re in country you will have the opportunity to do quite a bit!
NEPAL
Nepal 2023

The first Youthlinc trip to Nepal was in 2015 right after several rounds of earthquakes that devastated the entire country. Nepal is spread over an extremely mountainous region which makes it susceptible to high levels of earthquake activity and intense rainfall every year. These conditions continually wash out their roads and weakens the structural integrity of many buildings every year. These circumstances heavily damage infrastructure and leave buildings (schools, homes, etc.) in disrepair. This has especially detrimental effects on small more rural communities who are expected to fund rebuilds and structural repairs year after year after year.
Our in-country coordinator is Binod Rai. Binod and his family run a trekking company in Nepal called Insight Himalaya. He has a mind for logistics, such great experience, and is ecstatic to be working with Youthlinc. We are lucky to have him!
Our 2023 teams will be working in two small villages outside an area called Godawari, just 45 minutes southeast of Kathmandu. Both communities have tremendous need and are excited to welcome the Youthlinc teams with open arms!
