SAFETY

safety

Safety is Youthlinc's Top Priority.

Youthlinc takes the safety of our participants very seriously. Our team leaders and mentors are committed to the safety of the team.

HOW DO WE KEEP PARTICIPANTS SAFE?

MEDICAL MENTOR

Each team is assigned a Medical Professional (MD, RN, EMT). Their main responsibility is to keep the team healthy and consult on any decisions relating to health-related situations.

BACKGROUND CHECKS

We require all participants (humanitarians and mentors) 18 years and older to complete a background check.

INTERNATIONAL CONDITIONS

We regularly evaluate the evolving political and environmental conditions at our international sites to ensure our operations are as safe as possible.

SAFETY IN NUMBERS

We require all participants travel in groups at all times. These groups can be no less than five and always include an adult mentor. Our adult to student ratio is 1:4.

TEAM LEADERS

All Team Leaders have experience with Youthlinc in the past 3 years. They undergo leadership training and Mental Health first responder course. Their priority is safety and the individual development for each participant through service.

IN-COUNTRY COORDINATORS

We find and vet out safe and reliable transportation, accommodations, food vendors and access to proper medical facilities under the direction of our in-country partners. Any new locations are visited and arranged by a staff member.

EMERGENCY
INSURANCE

Youthlinc purchases emergency medical insurance through Wallach and Co. for all participants. This insurance covers the cost of medical expenses incurred from injury while traveling internationally. Coverage also includes emergency evacuation.

U OF U TRAVEL CLINIC

We partner with the University of Utah to host a travel clinic. At the Clinic, participants learn about how to stay healthy while traveling in developing countries. They also have a private consultation with a nurse or physician to discuss recommended vaccinations and get prescriptions for recommended medications. The cost for the travel clinic is built into your program fees but it does not cover any immunizations or prescriptions.

TRAVEL HEALTHY TIPS

The safety and well-being of our Youthlinc participants is our top priority. While each team has a Medical Mentor that will be available to participants as a resource during the international trip, it is the responsibility of each participant to take care of his/her own health while traveling.

CODE OF CONDUCT

It is expected by all participants to follow the code of conduct.
