Many Youthlinc participants find local service opportunities in areas that they are interested in as a career.  Students who are passionate about working in healthcare, physical therapy, education or social work can all get great hands on experience from their service sites.  We encourage participants to find a service site where they will be engaged and interested while serving a needy population.  Our Peru Team is made up of many Audiology students this year who have found great placements in free clinics around the state.  Lauren Roberts is one of these students.  She has found a great place at the 4th Street Clinic.

“There are plenty of opportunities to get volunteer experience when you are in school to become an audiologist. Over the course of the last several months, I have put in volunteer hours at two locations; ENT Specialists and 4th Street Clinic. Both sites allow me to serve patients while gaining clinical skills and experience.  Specifically, my service at the 4th Street Clinic is also aiding in my preparation for providing audiology services in Peru when I travel with Youthlinc.  The 4th Street Clinic is designed to provide quality health care to individuals who are homeless in Salt Lake City, Utah.  It has been a fantastic experience working with Dr. Sonkens and the supervising staff from the University of Utah Doctor of Audiology program.  The patients I have had the opportunity to work with have impacted my life more than I think I could have imagined.  It has been an honor to serve the individuals who come for audiology and ENT services.” – Lauren Roberts, Peru Team 2014
