The U.S Dream Academy

The U.S. Dream Academy is a local non-profit after-school organization located in West Valley City and based out of Maryland. We are dedicated to serving under-supported youth who come from families with a history of incarceration, who may be struggling academically, or who are living in a community with a high crime rate. Our mission is to inspire and invest in the lives of children of incarcerated parents and families in communities harmed by systemic inequities<br /><br /><br />A Youth Mentor aids in helping the students in our after-school program. The mentor will assist in our three pillars: Dream, Character, and Skill-building. The mentor will work closely with the Director and the Mentor Coordinator to develop and oversee our afterschool program for students. This position is flexible in nature and can be applicable to many majors and specialties.<br /><br /><br /><br />Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities<br /><br />Must have a fun and positive attitude. <br />Ability to communicate effectively with both children and adults.<br />Understanding issues surrounding incarceration and the impact on families.<br />Basic understanding of Math, Language Arts, and Science.<br /><br />Job Requirements<br /><br />Must be passionate about youth development; and support work with youth in high-risk communities and their families.<br />Must have personal transportation with a non-suspended driver''s license.<br />Must have experience working with youth.<br />Flexible and able to work the agreed-upon hours and projects assigned to you. <br />Organized, efficient, and able to successfully function in a fast-paced and demanding work environment supporting multiple key staff.<br />Excellent communication and writing skills.<br /><br />Learning Objectives<br /><br />Understand and implement best practices as they pertain to working with youth.<br />Develop, implement, and execute a successful and engaging program.<br />Better understand the academic and emotional hardships children who live in communities with high rates of crime experience.<br />Improve skills in organization, public speaking, adaptability, and teamwork<br />Develop excellent written and verbal communication<br /><br />Website: <a href="https://www.usdreamacademy.org/salt-lake-city-ut">Salt Lake City, UT Learning Center | U.S. Dream Academy (usdreamacademy.org)</a>
