Local Service

Service in Utah

Our service year teams were small in number but mighty in strength. Although our Service Year was smaller in size than in years past, 129 students and 26 alum leaders contributed 10,125 of local service.

“This year, more than ever before, we have seen the power that just one person’s service can have on each of us. In an pandemic world, we have all had to adjust our standards about what it means to be “connected” and to serve others. So many of us have had increased mental health challenges throughout the COVID pandemic. Looking outside ourselves and helping others has decreased the impact of the isolation and hopelessness that many of us have felt.

We have seen the Margaret Mead quote written on Youthlinc’s door in action over and over again this year. “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed it’s the only thing that ever has. In a world full of so much uncertainty, serving those around us gives us hope for the future we share.”

Local Service Director

Our Local Service Directory continues to be available to all Utah students as a free resource to track and verify community engagement hours. As a certifying organization for the President’s Volunteer Service Award, 92 students who used the Local Service Directory to log and verify a minimum of 100 service hours were eligible for this award.
