Student Application

YouthLINC students choose their local service sites, where they can become relied upon volunteers during their service year program. We require our student participants to do hands-on service with genuinely needy individuals or communities.

Team participants also attend monthly meetings where they prepare for the international experience, and are mentored to take leadership roles in planning the activities in-country while being mentored by team staff.

After fulfilling local service requirements, YouthLINC students take their commitment to another level by participating in a two-week experience in a developing country.

YouthLINC currently has four sites for international service: Meru, Kenya, including the communities of Nkubu and Tharaka, Ocotlan, Mexico (Escuela de Educacion Especial and surrounding pueblos), Santa Rosa Pueblo along the Amazon River in Peru and Khao Lak, Thailand, hard hit by the 2004 tsunami.

"The local service gets you into the spirit of service before you go. In the planning meetings, not only do you organize what you will be doing internationally, you also get to know everyone you'll be going with before you leave. I know a lot of people who do some service and then forget. But with YouthLINC, I learned so much-I could never forget!"
--Porter Illi, 2004 Peru participant
