THE SPONSORSHIP CONCEPT
Youthlinc is Unique
The integration of the five strategies from educational and service learning research increase the meaning and impact of our three core programs. The integration of local and international service into our Service Year can be found in no other youth service program.
But the Sponsorship Concept really sets us apart. Regardless of family income, every student who participates in our Service Year program must earn a sponsorship that pays a portion of their international service experience. The sponsorship is earned through 60-100 hours of volunteering and attendance at monthly planning meetings during the Service Year.
These sponsorships are offered to our students by generous individuals, educational institutions, businesses, and Rotary Clubs interested in investing in the service ethic of young people.
Sponsorships for students participating in our Guatemala program are $700, Cambodia, Peru & Thailand $900, Kenya $1100.
Our students keep in touch with our sponsors during the Service Year, so sponsors can track the impact of the program on the students they sponsor. Generally, sponsors and students do not know each other at first, but come to know each other throughout the Service Year.
As we retain 90-100% of our Sponsors year-to-year, this is an investment that our student sponsors realize is truly worthwhile.
The Youthlinc program has greatly impacted me. The whole experience wasn’t just about helping others, but finding out about myself as well. I realized how materialistic I am and that I don’t need so much to be happy. I also found out how much I enjoy helping people, and I always want service to be a part of life.

Why should you provide a sponsorship?
If you want effect real change in the lives of people both here and abroad, please consider a Youthlinc sponsorship.
What are the responsibilities of a sponsorship provider?
Communicate with Youthlinc in September or October of the calendar year, and decide how many students you want to sponsor. You may have a preference of international program. Generally, our sponsors do not know the students they are sponsoring at first. But you will get to know the students you sponsor through their communications with you during the Service Year. You can work with Youthlinc staff to select these students from applications we receive in October.
Plan on having the student(s) you sponsor report to you, your organization, or club at the end of their Service Year about their local and international experiences.
How much are student sponsorships?
Sponsorships are either $600 (for Mexico) $800 (Cambodia, Peru, Thailand) or $1000 (for Kenya). There is also a $100 per sponsorship administrative fee payable by sponsorship providers to Youthlinc.
Donations to Youthlinc are tax-deductible.
What tasks does Youthlinc complete in the program?
Youthlinc will work with your organization to select students from high schools, colleges or universities. We conduct monthly orientation meetings and coordinate fundraising efforts. With an in-country coordinator at each international service site, we plan and make all arrangements for the international experience. Youthlinc also provides all administrative support: applications, flyers, itineraries, etc.
Can sponsorship providers participate in the Youthlinc program?
Absolutely. Many of our sponsors are past mentors in the program, or parents of alums.
